The Fireflies Talk About Early Earth and Outer Space

This week we started the first week of our new block - Early Earth and Outer Space. The friends participated in activities and conversations about our planet’s earliest days. We talked about our planet’s place in the solar system, how we experience night and day, and the sea monsters that occupied the oceans when dinosaurs were alive. In addition to our planned block activities the younger friends had lots of laughs in dramatic play and the older friends engaged in building big projects, everyday! We were so grateful to them for sharing their big plans with us. The science corner was also a busy place this week where children investigated rocks and bugs, and used the new scale to weigh everything in the science corner. We hope you all have a great weekend. See you next week when we talk about THE MOON!

Ms. Patty helped the friends explore how we experience night and day. The friends built this light box and then used a mini earth and flashlight to simulate night and day.

While the friends enjoyed our talks about the planet, they still made plenty of time for one of their favorite activities - BUILDING!

Dramatic play is always a fun opportunity to check a how you feel about a new look, maybe even consider a career for your future self… How does this hat look on me?

The younger friends had a blast talking about sea shells and sand. Although the alligator toy in the kinetic sandbox was their favorite part.

To wrap up the conversations about our planet’s earliest days, we read a book about ancient sea monsters. The friends each made their very own sea monsters. Then we made this awesome ancient ocean together - where all of the sea monsters lived happily ever after.
